SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team avoided being no-hit by San Diego State but couldn't muster enough offense to defeat the Aztecs in a 5-0 loss Wednesday night from the USD Softball Complex. Chloe Kaneko broke up Bailey Micetich's no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the seventh with a single through the left side.

The Toreros (23-14) only had two other baserunners on the night as the Aztecs committed two errors. With her base hit, Kaneko extended her hitting streak to six games.

SDSU (22-19) got on the board right off the bat after Hayley Miles clubbed a leadoff home run off USD starter Jenny Lahitte (11-7), snapping Lahitte's 21.0-inning scoreless streak.

The Aztecs then added another run in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly by Lorena Klopp that put SDSU up 2-0.

In the top of the fifth, SDSU posted a pair of runs on an RBI single from Justeen Maeva and a wild pitch that allowed Jacki Campa to score, giving the Aztecs a 4-0 advantage.

The final run for SDSU came in the top of the seventh when Klopp drove in another run with an RBI single up the middle.

The Toreros threw all three of their pitchers on the night, but Lahitte took the loss after going 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out two. Micetich (10-6) lasted 7.0 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out nine.

USD welcomes Loyola Marymount to the USD Softball Complex on Saturday and Sunday for a pair of 12/2 pm doubleheaders.
