SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore third baseman Kris Bryant of the 18th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. This is Bryant's third WCC Player of the Week award this season.
Bryant, a 6-5 sophomore from Las Vegas, Nev., helped lead USD to a three-game sweep over BYU this past weekend to remain in sole possession of first place in the conference standings. Bryant paced the Torero offense going 8-for-15 (.533) with three home runs and seven RBI. He was slugging at a 1.133 clip, and boasted a .611 on base percentage. With the three home runs, Bryant moved into a tie for fifth at USD in single-season home runs with 13. Bryant began the week on Thursday with a 2-for-4, one home run and four RBI performance against BYU, then on Friday he followed that up with a 4-for-5, two home run and three RBI performance. Bryant capped his week with a 2-for-5 performance on Saturday to help USD complete the sweep.
Bryant and the Toreros will return to action on Tuesday, as they host UC Irvine in a 3 p.m. non-conference game inside the friendly confines of Cunningham Stadium.
