LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Both Alaysia Brown and Katie Hoekman recorded double-digit kills to help propel the 17th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team (5-2) to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 26-24) win over Cal Poly (1-7) in the final game of the USC Tournament Saturday evening at the Galen Center.

Kandiss Anderson led the defensive charge with 17 digs, while Rachel Alvey recoded 21 assists in helping steer the USD offense to a .280 attack percentage.
In the first set, the Toreros came out firing on all cylinders, as a Katie Hoekman kill ignited a 7-2 run to open the frame, and that forced the Mustangs into a timeout. Cal Poly then clawed their way back to within two at 11-9, but a Cal Poly service error ignited a 5-2 San Diego run to give USD back the momentum and a 16-11 lead. The Toreros never looked back as they cruised their way to a 25-20 win.
In the second set, it was a close nit battle in the early going. Then with the score knotted at 5-all, an Hoekman kill jumpstarted a 10-1 Torero run to give San Diego all the momentum and a 15-6 lead. This proved to be too much for the Mustangs to overcome, as the Toreros cruised their way to a 25-13 victory.
In the third set, it was close for the entire frame, with the Mustangs having the lead for a majority of it. Then late with the Mustangs up 23-20, a Shelby Staab kill sparked a 4-0 USD run to give San Diego match-point at 24-23. After Cal Poly tied things up, USD grabbed the next two points to complete the sweep with a 26-24 win.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, when they host the USD Tournament in a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Fresno State. This will be USD's home opener.
