TEMPE, Ariz. — San Diego volleyball had an early lead in each of the first two sets against No. 7 Arizona State on Saturday evening and turned one of them into a set win. The Sun Devils answered everywhere else, closing out a 25-15, 23-25, 25-11, 25-14 decision as part of the 2026 Snyder-Park Classic at Desert Financial Arena.
The Toreros (3-4, 0-0 WCC) put down 31 kills against 31 errors on 135 swings and hit .000 for the match. Arizona State (7-2, 0-0 Big 12) hit .217, served 13 aces to San Diego's six and finished with an 11.0-6.0 edge in team blocks.
San Diego led 8-4 in the opener on the strength of a
Kierstyn Barton–
BayLea Sparks stuff and a kill from
Allie Dunnion, and the set was still even at 11 when Faith Frame went back to serve. The Sun Devils scored six in a row from there to lead 17-11 and never gave the margin back.
Down 8-3 in the second and out of a timeout, the Toreros ran off five straight — three
Nemo Beach kills wrapped around a pair of
Reese Bates aces — to pull within 10-9. Arizona State pushed back in front 17-14 before San Diego answered with six consecutive points, five of them on
Lauren Lynch's serve, to take a 20-17 lead. Lynch aced Piper Rama twice in the stretch. The sides traded to 23-23, and
Emma Brewer ended it with a kill and then the set-winning ace, awarded to San Diego on a successful challenge.
The third set got away in a hurry. San Diego managed two kills against six errors on 29 attempts while Arizona State hit .351, getting six kills on 10 swings from Noemie Glover. The Sun Devils led 12-4 and finished it 25-11.
San Diego trailed just 12-10 in the fourth after
Ella Fulton and
Emma Brewer stuffed Grace Martin at the net. Rama then served seven straight points, three of them aces, to blow it open at 20-10.
Beach led the Toreros with 11 kills and Brewer added eight with five digs. Lynch finished with 17 digs, two aces and a clean 24-for-24 night in serve receive.
Kylie Munday had 24 assists and nine digs,
Ryann Knuth posted five kills and eight digs, and Barton recorded five kills, five digs, and three block assists.
The match took 2 hours and 4 minutes in front of an announced crowd of 3,552.
