Last Time Out....
The Toreros put together a perfect 6-0 week, defeating Iona 10-4 on Mar. 12 before going undefeated in the San Diego Classic II at the Santee Sportsplex over the weekend. Kylie Ordos seemed to be on base constantly for USD over the weekend as she hit a team-best .538 (7-for-13), while drawing six walks to post a .700 on-base percentage, not to mention scoring eight runs, including both winning runs in USD's two walk-off victories this past Sunday versus Fairfield (3-2, 10 inn.) and Harvard (2-1). Dana Prelsnik and Caitlin Rooney delivered the game-winning hits in those wins. Jenny Lahitte held opposing hitters in check throughout the tournament as she won all three of her starts without allowing an earned run over 19.0 IP.
Torero Tidbits....
• With their two extra-inning victories this past weekend, USD is now 3-3 in extra-inning games this year.
• As of Mar. 17, USD ranks 35th in the NCAA in team ERA (1.95), while Lauren Tomey ranks No. 19 in the NCAA in toughest to strikeout, averaging one K per 41.0 AB. Tomey has only struck out twice this season.
• RF Lauren Tomey is currently riding an 11-game on-base streak. Earlier this season she had a 13-game on-base streak that coincided with a team-best nine-game hitting streak.
• After struggling to drive in runs in the early going, USD is hitting .292 with runners in scoring position over their last 10 contests, including a more-than-efficient .520 with runners at third and less than two outs. Chloe Kaneko has been clutch during that span by hitting at a .455 clip (5-for-11) with RISP.
• RHP Cassidy Coleman has moved into 2nd place among USD's career strikeout leaders. Coleman, a junior, currently has 354 Ks, surpassing Colleen Norman (1995-98; 311 Ks). Jennifer Ellenbeck (2007-10; 447 Ks) is the Toreros' career leader. Coleman's 8.09 strikeouts per seven innings rate (354 K in 306.0 IP) is by far the highest of USD's career strikeout leaders. By comparison, Ellenbeck (447 K in 619.0 IP) had a K/7 rate of 5.05 and Norman (311 K in 715.1 IP) had a rate of 3.04.
• RHP Jenny Lahitte is also moving her way up the USD career strikeout list. Lahitte, also a junior, just passed Norman for 3rd place with 313 career Ks. Like Coleman, Lahitte has been very efficient in producing strikeouts as shown by her 7.20 K/7 rate (313K in 304.1 IP).
• RHP Cassidy Coleman was named PCSC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 26. She is the first Torero to earn pitcher/player of the week honors this season. It is her second pitcher of the week recognition for her career.
• Fr. 2B Danielle Mavridis' grand slam vs. Fresno State on Feb. 17 was the first Torero grand slam since Taylor Hensley's on Apr. 28, 2012 vs. Sacramento State.
