Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to an end Thursday evening with a stunning 3-0 loss to the University of San Francisco at War Memorial Gym.

With the 22-25, 21-25, 21-25 loss, the Toreros fall to 15-8 overall, drop to 8-3 in the WCC, but remain just one match back of league-leading BYU, who was upset by Santa Clara tonight, 3-0. With the win, the Dons improve to 12-11 overall and move to 5-6 in the WCC.

The Torero offense was paced by Canace Finley, who had a career-high 13 kills on 25 swings, while only committing three errors, to hit for a .400 clip. The only other Torero in double digit kills was Alaysia Brown, who had 11. Kristen Gengenbacher (20 assists) and Jianna Bonomi (18 assists) helped steer the USD offense to a .277 team attack percentage.

In the first set, it was a back and forth battle right from the get-go. Both teams had their turn with the lead, and neither team led by more that two for majority of the frame. Then with things all tied up at 21-all, USF would take two of the next three points to force USD into a timeout. USF then grabbed the next two points to take set one 25-22.

In set two, it was very similar to the first frame, as both teams took their turn with the lead, and neither team had a lead bigger than two for a majority of the set. Then late with the score knotted at 20-all, USF would once again close things out, this time on a 5-1 run to take a two-sets-to-none lead in the match.

In the third set, USF came out firing on all cylinders, as they raced out to a 10-1 lead, to force USD into a timeout. USD then responded with a 7-3 run to force USF into a timeout. USD just could not recover from that early deficit, as the Dons cruised to a 25-21 win to complete the sweep.

USD will return to action on Saturday, as they travel to the Bay Area to take on Santa Clara in a 1 p.m. WCC match, that will air live on TheW.tv.
