LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to No. 15 Long Beach State University Friday evening in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.

With the loss, the Toreros conclude the season 19-12, and saw its eight match winning streak against LBSU come to an end. With the win, the 49ers improve to 27-4 overall and will advance on to play the winner of the UCLA and LIU Brooklyn match on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Alaysia Brown led the Torero offense with 13 kills, and she hit for as .281 clip. Sofia Lavin recorded nine kills, and Sandra Lozic chipped in with eight, while Lisa Kramer added in seven more. Lozic led the defensive side of things of things with 12 digs, while Jianna Bonomi recorded 21 assists and Kristen Gengenbacher added in 19 to help steer the team to a .230 team attack percentage.

In the first set, it was a back and forth battle right out of the gates. Both teams took their turn with the lead, and neither team led by more than two. The frame featured 10 ties, and the last tie came at 23-all on a Canace Finley kill to force the 49ers into a timeout. Out of the break, LBSU was able to grab the next two points to sneak away with a 25-23 win.

In the second set, USD grabbed some early momentum by taking s 4-2 lead, their biggest of the match, on a Kramer kill. Long Beach then rattled off four straight points to regain the lead at 6-4. The Toreros would manage to tie the score up a total of eight times in the frame, but could not regain the lead. With the 49ers leading 23-19, the Toreros reeled off three consecutive points to pull to within one at 23-22, forcing the 49ers into a timeout. Long Beach then took set-point on a Bre Mackie kill. But the next possession, Mackie appeared to throw the ball, only the officials called USD for a double touch, to give the 49ers the set on a very controversial decision.

In the third set, USD kept things close through the first half of the frame, as they went into the media timeout trailing 15-14. The 49ers then opened 7-4 run to take a 22-18 lead, and never looked back as they completed the sweep with a 25-22 win.
