Feb. 12, 2014

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Torero softball team (2-4) fell to the undefeated Cal State Fullerton Titans (6-0) on the road Thursday night. Mary Grabowski and Chloe Kaneko both hit solo home runs, but the Toreros could only manage five hits against the stellar Fullerton pitching staff.

The Titans grabbed an early lead when Missy Taukeiaho hit a solo home run to centerfield off Jenny Lahitte in the bottom of the first. They would tack on one more in the third when Gabby Aragon brought home Taukeiaho with a RBI double.

The Toreros cut in to the lead the following inning when Grabowski hit a home run down the left field line. It was Grabowski's third consecutive game with a home run. She has already eclipsed her home run total from last year.

The Titans added to their lead the next two innings. In the fourth, they scored after Lahitte walked Ariel Tsuchiyama with the bases loaded, and in the fifth Eliza Crawford hit a solo shot to right field to give Fullerton a 4-1 lead.

The Toreros scored one more in the sixth on a Kaneko solo home run to left center to bring the game to its final score of 4-2.

Lahitte (2-2) takes the loss after giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Cassidy Coleman replaced her in the fifth and pitched 1.2 shutout innings.

The Toreros return to action February 22 for a doubleheader against Iowa State (10:00 a.m.) and Sacramento State (12:30 p.m.) in the Santa Clara Tournament.
