LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of San Diego softball team (1-3) split their doubleheader in the second day of the Sportco Kick Off Classic. After falling to Arkansas 10-1 in the first game, the Toreros rebounded to beat UC Davis 5-2 behind freshman Olivia Sandusky's four RBI.
The Toreros found themselves in a hole in the first game of the day, allowing the Razorbacks to score five runs in the first inning. The Toreros responded with one run in the second after Mary Grabowski launched a home run to centerfield, the first home run for USD of the season.
That proved to be the lone run for the Toreros, but Arkansas tacked on two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Senior Cassidy Coleman (0-2) struggled for the second consecutive day, allowing seven earned runs in 3.1 innings. Grace Hernandez gave up three runs (two earned) in her lone inning of work.
In the second game, the Toreros once again found themselves trailing after allowing a two-run single by the Aggies in the top of the third. USD took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when freshman Olivia Sandusky hit a triple to left center with the bases loaded. Two batters later, Kylie Ordos doubled her in to give the Toreros a 4-2 lead.
Sandusky added to her RBI total in the bottom of the sixth when she brought home Tatum Schultz with a sacrifice fly.
Senior Jenny Lahitte (1-1) picked up her first win of the season with a complete game two run performance.
The Toreros wrap up play in the Sportco Kick Off Classic tomorrow afternoon when they play the host school, UNLV, at 2:30 p.m.
