SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" Behind Lisa Kramer's double-double, and Canace Finley's 14 kills, the University of San Diego women's volleyball team swept away the University of Portland in a West Coast Conference match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion Thursday evening.
With the 25-17, 26-24, 25-15 win, the Toreros improve to 12-6 overall, remain in a three-way tie for first place at 6-1 in the WCC, and have now defeated Portland for the 47th consecutive time. With the loss, the Pilots fall to 11-8 overall and 1-6 in the WCC.
Kramer led all players with 18 kills on 39 swings, while committing five errors to hit for a .333 clip, and she recorded a career-high 16 digs to post a double-double. Finley was the only other player in the match to record double digit kills with 14, while also picking up one block. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 43 assists, while Hunter Jennings paced the defense with 16 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .303 clip, while Portland hit for a .117 clip. USD out blocked the Pilots, 6.0-5.0. USD recorded 52 kills, to Portland's 29 for the match.
For the Pilots, Hannah Troutman, Katie Sullivan, and Emily Liger all recorded six kills apiece to pace the Pilots offense. Djurdjina Milovic recorded 25 assists, while Monica Gajda paced the defense with 13 digs.
San Diego will return to action on Saturday, as they host Gonzaga University in a 12 p.m. WCC match inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
