SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 15 Brigham Young University Friday evening in a West Coast Conference match inside of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the 23-25, 24-26, 20-25 loss, the Toreros fall to 9-6 overall, saw its three-match winning streak come to an end, and fell to 3-1 in the WCC. With the win, the Cougars improved to 13-2 overall, and 3-1 in the WCC.
Senior opposite Canace Finley, who had 14 kills, while hitting for a .235 clip, and recording three digs and two blocks, paced USD's offense. Lisa Kramer was the only other Torero in double digit kills, as she had 12, while recording eight digs and adding in one block. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 36 assists, and had six digs, while Hunter Jennings paced the defense with 12 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .120 clip, while BYU hit for a .264 clip. The Cougars out blocked the Toreros 15.0-4.5, while USD recorded 44 digs to the Cougars 39.
For BYU, Alexa Gray led the way with 14 kills, while hitting .294, and she had seven digs. Alohi Robins-Hardy recorded 33 assists and had 10 digs to post a double-double, while Whitney Howard led the defense with seven blocks.
San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they head up to the Bay Area to take on the Saint Mary's College Gaels in a 7 p.m. WCC match.
