WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. â€" The USD Swim and Dive team completed their first day at the Purdue Invite Friday evening. The Toreros currently sit at eighth place with 63 points.
After the morning preliminaries, the Toreros "A" relay squad of Danielle Taylor, Bri Jurries, Sarah Reierson, and Jackie Taylor kicked off the evening session by taking fifth place in the 200 free relay. They finished with a season-best time of 1:35.51 to earn USD 28 points.
In the 500 Free, both Morgan Scarth (5:04.98) and Liza Kuznetsova (5:05.29) qualified for the evening's finals where both swimmers posted career best times and grabbed top 30 finishes.
In the next event, the 200 IM, Bri Jurries earned seven points in the "B Final" with a time of 2:03.35. She was second in the "B Final," but would have finished sixth overall if she was in the "A Final."
Jackie and Danielle Taylor represented the Toreros in the 50 Free Finals. Racing in the "C Final," Jackie finished with a time of 23.98. Danielle clocked in at 23.78, just 0.49 seconds behind her older sister's school record.
The Toreros closed out the evening with the 400 IM relay. Reierson, Jurries, Danielle Taylor, and Jackie Taylor teamed up once again to take fifth place with a time of 3:46.67.
The Toreros will continue the Purdue Invite Saturday with the preliminaries beginning at 8:00 a.m. PT.
