SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego women's volleyball team closed out the regular-season with a stunning 3-0 loss to Loyola Marymount University Tuesday evening in a West Coast Conference match at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the 22-25, 23-25, 19-25 loss, the Toreros conclude the regular-season with a 21-8 overall record, and have secured a second place finish in the WCC. With the win, the Lions improve to 22-8 overall, and have a 13-5 mark in the WCC. Both teams will now await Sunday's NCAA selection show to learn where and when they will be competing in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Lisa Kramer led the USD offense with 14 kills, while also recording three blocks and two digs. Canace Finley chipped in with seven kills. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 28 assists, while Lizzy Tardieu recorded nine digs to help pace the USD defense.
As a team, USD hit for a .090 clip, while LMU hit for a .240 clip. The Lions out blocked the Toreros 11.0-7.0, and LMU recorded 43 kills to USD's 35.
For the Lions, Rachelle Suaava led the offense with 12 kills, and the only other LMU player in double digit kills was Amber Mirabello, who had 10. Hannah Tedrow recorded 38 assists, while Kristen Castellanos recorded 13 digs.
