FRESNO, Calif. -- The University of San Diego women's basketball team overcame a 7-point fourth quarter deficit to pick up a 72-68 win over Fresno State University Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Save Mart Center.

After USD did plenty of hard work to regain the lead in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs would claw their way back into the game. With just 1:31 remaining, Fresno State managed to tie things up at 66-all on an Alex Furr 3-pointer. Forty-five seconds later, Malina Hood put a dagger in the Fresno State hopes, as she drilled a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left. Maya Hood then hit a pair of free throws with six seconds left, and USD never looked back, claiming the 72-68 win.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 9-1 overall, and are off to the second best start in program history. With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 4-6 overall.

Malina Hood tied a career-high with 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including hitting four 3-pointers. Maya Hood was the second Torero in double figures, as she had 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field, while pulling down six rebounds. Sydney Williams was the final Torero in double figures, as she had 11 points, and pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds. Cori Woodward set a new career-high with eight assists, marking the second consecutive game she has set a new career-high in this category.

As a team, USD shot 46.4% from the field, while the Bulldogs shot an impressive 56.0% from the floor. Both teams recorded 27 rebounds, while FSU recorded 12 turnovers, and USD only had 10.

For the Bulldogs, Shauqunna Collins led the way with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field, while recording five rebounds. Bego Faz Davalos was the second of three Fresno State players in double figures, with 15 points, and Alex Furr added in 15 more points.

The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday, as they return home to take on Hope International in a 5 p.m. non-conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
