FULLERTON, Calif. - Behind the hot shooting of senior guard Malina Hood, the University of San Diego women's basketball team returned to its winning ways with a 53-44 win over Cal State Fullerton Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at Titan Gym.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 8-1 overall, and are off to their second best start in program history. With the loss, the Titans fall to 2-8 overall, and have now lost eight consecutive games.

Malina Hood scored her game-high 27 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field, while just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. This marked Hood's third consecutive 20-point game, and her fourth in the last five games. Maya Hood was the second Torero in double figures, as she recorded 10 points on 2-of-12 shooting from the field, and she pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to post her fifth double-double of the season. Cori Woodward recorded a career-high seven assists, while also pulling down five rebounds and scoring four points.

As a team, USD shot 33.3% from the field, while the Titans shot 34.0% from the floor. USD out rebounded the home team 44-28, and USD committed 18 turnovers, while CSF recorded 17 turnovers.

For the Titans, Michelle Berry led the way with 14 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, and she pulled down 10 rebounds to post a double-double. Jade Vega chipped in with 13 points on 4-of-17 shooting from the field, as the only other Fullerton player in double figures. Lauren Nubla recoded seven assists, and had six points.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they head up to Fresno, to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs in a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
