Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Fueled by the freshman duo of Kailey Hill and Paige von Sprecken, the USD Softball team (13-12) knocked off Bryant 1-0 Wednesday evening at the USD Softball Complex. Von Sprecken threw a complete game shutout and Kailey Hill provided the muscle, leading off the seventh inning with a line drive walkoff home run over the centerfield fence to lift the Toreros back over .500.

The Toreros beat 11-0 in five innings on Sunday in the Mustang Classic, but Wednesday evening was a far different story. Both teams were locked in a shutout, and combined for only four hits through the first five innings. The Toreros didn't get their first base knock till the fifth inning.

The Toreros managed to put a runner on second with two outs in both the fifth and sixth inning, but each time Bryant's Elle Madsen was able to escape.

Hill led off the seventh with a rope to centerfield, the only question was whether it had enough air to get over the wall. Once it barely cleared the fence, the Toreros stormed the field to greet Hill at home. This was the Toreros' fifth walk off home run in program history and first since 2011 (Taylor Hensley at CS Bakersfield).

Von Sprecken (9-4) was brilliant in the circle, limiting the Bulldogs to four hits in seven shutout innings to lower her ERA on the season to 2.14.

The Toreros return to action on Sunday when they kick off the San Diego Classic II with a 9:00 am game against Western Carolina at the Santee Sportsplex.
