SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team (21-13, 12-3 WCC) pounded out 14 hits en route to a 12-3 victory over the University of the Pacific (7-27, 5-10 WCC) Sunday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at Fowler Park.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, as they scored one run in the top of the first inning, to take their first lead of the series. The Pacific run came on a Brett Sullivan RBI single, which scored Tyler Sullivan to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Toreros then took advantage of a Pacific fielding error to score a pair of unearned runs. Bryson Brigman reached on an error and moved to second on a Colton Waltner single. Each runner then moved up a base on a Jesse Jenner ground out, and Jerod Smith drove in Brigman with an RBI infield single. Austin Bailey then drew a walk to load the bases, and Riley Adams pushed in the final a run on a bases-loaded walk to give USD a 2-1 lead.
After Pacific tied things up at 2-all in the top of the fifth, the Toreros responded with a five-run bottom of the fifth. The USD runs came on a Pacific fielding error, an Aidan Stinnett RBI single, a two-run Ben Wylly single, and a Brigman RBI sacrifice bunt, to break open the game and give USD a 7-2 lead.
Pacific then took back one run in the top of the seventh, only to see USD score five in the bottom of the seventh to put the game at its final of 12-3
Offensively for the Toreros, Bailey led the way, as he went 4-for-4 with one RBI, while Waltner went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Jacob Hill (6-2) picked up the win on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings of work. Pacific's Michael Benson (2-2) was saddled with the loss for the Tigers, as he allowed five runs, three earned, on five runs in 4.1 innings of work.
The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday, as they host Long Beach State in a non-conference game inside the friendly confines of Fowler Park.
