SAN DIEGO, Calif. --
Megan Goodman of the USD women's rowing team earned a birth on the U-23 National Team and will represent the United States at the World Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria July 22-26.

"Representing the United States at the Worlds in Bulgaria will surely be a huge responsibility, but I feel so lucky to even get the chance to wear a USA uni," Goodman said. "I couldn't have even imagined this a few months ago, so it's all very surreal!"

Goodman was one of 25 athletes competing for 16 spots on the National Team in West Windsor, New Jersey the past few days. Earlier this morning, she took first place in her trials with Harvard's Mary Carmack to clinch a place on the National Team.

"Qualifying for the team in the double this morning was one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had," Goodman said. "We knew we had a shot at winning the finals and earning a spot on the team going into the race, which was so exciting in itself. When we crossed the finish line first, I felt so grateful and humbled for the opportunity to be in the race and so elated to have gone down the course and successfully accomplished what we wanted to."

Goodman, who was recently featured in the San Diego UT, was a swimmer before arriving on campus, but has been in the Varsity Eight for the past two WCC Championships. As the No. 4 seat in the V8+ she helped USD win a WCC Championship and finish 15th at NCAA Championships in the 2014 season. This season she helped lead the Varsity Eight to a second place finish at WCC's and was a part of the WCC crew of the month (March).
