LOS ANGELES — San Diego women's rowing traveled to the Port of Los Angeles on Saturday to face USC in a dual meet, putting five boats on the water to compete against the Trojans.
USC claimed victories in three of the four head-to-head events, with the Trojans posting strong performances across all boats. The second varsity eight was the closest race of the day, with San Diego crossing in 6:55.75 to USC's 6:27.07. In the first varsity eight, coxed by Evy Melstrand and stroked by Annabelle Ruinet, the Toreros finished in 6:31.4, behind USC's 6:17.07.
The first varsity four, coxed by Ayla Pacheco and stroked by Petra Phillips, posted a time of 7:28.81 in a race won by USC in 7:23.03. In the second varsity four, San Diego finished in 7:48.6, behind USC's 7:39.2, with the third varsity four also completing the event in 8:17.7.
San Diego will take two weeks to prepare for postseason competition, starting with the West Coast Conference Championships, taking place on Friday and Saturday, May 15 and 16 on Sacramento's Lake Natoma.
