Toreros fall to Saint Mary's Gaels

MORAGA - The USD Toreros ran into a buzz saw Saturday night as first place Saint Mary's dealt them a 79-46 loss. The SMC Gaels shot 58.2% from the field and 69.2% from beyond the three-point arc. SMC was paced by forward Dane Pineau with 17 points. USD received 12 points and 7 rebounds from junior forward Brett Bailey. USD returns home for two games this coming week against USF (Jan. 7th) and Santa Clara (Jan. 9th).

The Toreros trailed at halftime 34-21 with Duda Sanadze leading the way with 9 points on 4-of-8 shooting. In the second half it was all Saint Mary's as the Gaels outscored USD 45-25. Pineau was followed in the scoring column by Stefan Gonzalez (12 points, 4-4 in threes), Calvin Hermanson (11 points) and Jock Landale (11 points). For the game SMC made 9-13 three-pointers and outrebounded USD 35 to 21.

Sanadze finished with 11 points as USD made 19-48 shots from the field and just 4-of-16 beyond the three-point arc.
