SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind a match-best 16-kill performance from senior opposite Lisa Kramer, the fifth-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over Saint Mary's College Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference match inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
With the 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 win, the Toreros improve to 15-2 overall, and remain in sole possession of first place in the WCC at 6-0, while also running their winning streak to 14. With the loss, the Gaels fall to 8-10 overall, and 3-4 in the WCC.
Kramer led all players with her 16 kills, while also racking up four blocks and four digs. Thana Fayad added in eight kills, while Kristen Gengenbacher led the team with 29 assists, and Hunter Jennings led the defense with 12 digs.
As a team, USD hit for a .236 clip, while the Gales hit .114. USD recorded 44 kills to SMC's 32. USD recorded 50 digs, while the Gaels recorded 33 digs, and USD out blocked the Gaels, 9.0-7.0.
For the Gaels, Lindsey Calvin recorded a team-leading 10 kills, while hitting .152. Mary Hernandez led the team with 24 assists, while just missing a double-double with nine digs.
San Diego will return to action on Thursday, when they travel up to Spokane, Wash. to take on Gonzaga University in a 6 p.m. WCC match at the Martin Centre.
