SANTA CLARA, Calif. â€" The 11th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team cruised its way to a 3-0 win over Santa Clara University Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference match at the Leavey Center.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 23-4 overall, move to 14-2 in the WCC, and have swept the season series with the Broncos. With the loss, SCU falls to 15-13 overall and 6-10 in the WCC.
Lisa Kramer led the Torero offense with 14 kills on 23 swings, while only committing two errors, to hit for a .421 clip. Kaity Edwards was the final Torero in double digit kills, as she had 10 on 19 swings, while hitting for a .421 clip. Anna Newsome had 24 assists, while Kristen Gengenbacher added in 18 assists. Hunter Jennings recorded 11 digs to lead the Torero defense.
As a team, USD hit for a .303 clip, while the Broncos hit .190. USD recorded 38 digs, and SCU recorded 35 digs. The Toreros recorded 48 kills to the Broncos 37. Each team had 6.0 blocks.
For the Broncos, Nikki Hess led the way with nine kills, and hit for a .227 clip. Kristen Mead had 32 assists, while Taylor Laugero, and Hess, led the defense with eight digs each.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they head over to San Francisco to take on the Dons of the University of San Francisco in a 1 p.m., WCC match.
