SPOKANE, Wash. â€" Senior guard Malina Hood hits a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left to lift the University of San Diego women's basketball team to a thrilling 58-57 victory over the 11-time defending champion Gonzaga University Bulldogs Thursday evening in a West Coast Conference game at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

This is also USD's first win in Spokane since the 2002 season. With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 17-2 overall, move to 9-8 in the WCC, and have now lost three consecutive games.
Malina Hood led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting from the field, while also pulling down seven rebounds. Maya Hood added in 11 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, while Cori Woodward recorded 11 points and she dished out five assists.
As a team, USD shot 35.6% from the field, while Gonzaga shot 45.7% from the field. The Toreros and Bulldogs each had 33 rebounds, while USD only committed 11 turnovers, and the Zags had 15.
For the Bulldogs, Georgia Stirton and Jill Barta each scored 11 points, while Laura Stockton chipped in with eight points.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they close out the regular-season with a 2 p.m. game at the University of Portland.
