Toreros Dropped by Seattle 4-2

March 18, 2016

Box Score

SANTEE, Calif. â€" The USD softball team (9-18) fell to Seattle 4-2 Friday evening at the Santee Sportsplex USA. The Toreros scored two runs in the top of the first, but couldn't manage any more runs after that.

The Toreros began the game with three straight singles, highlighted by Kailey Hill's two-RBI single up the middle, which gave USD an early 2-0 lead, but those would be USD's only hits of the game.

Seattle immediately responded in their half of the first inning, scoring four runs, which all came with two outs. After a Grace Hernandez walk, Rose Saenz hit a RBI double to right. Saenz then stole third and came around to score on an errant USD throw. Maddy Kristjanson also doubled to right and was knocked in on a Molly Campbell two run home run to left, which prompted Coach McElvain to pull Hernandez. Megan Sabbatini needed just one pitch to end the inning.

The Toreros loaded the bases in the top of the second, but couldn't take advantage of the opportunity and left all three runners stranded.

Megan Sabbatini was excellent in relief, pitching 5.1 innings of three hit shutout ball. Seattle's Alyssa Reuble allowed just one hit and no runs in 5.1 innings of relief.

The Toreros return to action Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Harvard at the Santee Sportsplex USA.
