SANTEE, Calif. -- The USD softball team (10-20) snapped their eight game losing streak with a 14-7 win over Cal Poly to wrap up the San Diego Classic II Sunday afternoon. The Toreros had lost to No. 24 Fresno State 13-3 in five innings earlier in the day, but responded by scoring 14 runs on 15 hits in their second game.

The Toreros first three batters reached base to load the bases and then freshman Lauren Kane hit a RBI sacrifice fly to left to bring home Olivia Sandusky.
A couple of USD errors led to two unearned Bulldog runs in the bottom of the second, and Fresno State would hold the lead for the rest of the game.
The Bulldogs added four more runs in the third inning. They scored two on a RBI single, one on a double, and another on a wild pitch.
The Toreros scored a pair of runs with two outs in the top of the fourth. Freshman Taylor Spence hit a RBI single and Kailey Hill hit a RBI double.
The Bulldogs ended the game via run-rule in the bottom of the fifth when they scored seven runs, four of them coming from a Lindsey Willmon grand slam.
The Toreros had as many hits as the Bulldogs (nine), but left nine runners on base.
Grace Hernandez (3-8) took the loss after allowing four earned runs in 2.1 innings. Both Lauren Berriatua and Kailey Hill allowed two earned runs each in relief.
SAN DIEGO 14, CAL POLY 7 The Mustangs scored three first innings runs. Their first came on a bases loaded walk, and then they scored two more on a Makenna Young ground-rule double. All three Cal Poly runs were unearned.
The Toreros tied it up in the third inning, taking advantage of three Mustang errors. Olivia Sandusky led off the inning by reaching on an error, and then scored on another Cal Poly error. Kailey Hill then tied the game with a two run home run to left field. This was Hill's second home run of the season; she hit a program record 12 in 2015.
The Torero offense exploded for seven runs on eight hits in the fourth inning. Taylor Spence hit a RBI single, and then Hill hit a two-RBI triple to centerfield. After the next two Torero batters were retired, Mary Grabowski hit a two run home run to left field. The Toreros scored two more on an Olivia Sandusky RBI single to take a 10-3 lead.
Cal Poly cut into their deficit with two unearned runs in the fourth inning runs.
The Toreros got those runs back in the fifth, scoring one a Danielle Mavridis sacrifice fly and another on a Hannah Gilliland RBI single.
After a two RBI triple by Cal Poly in the sixth inning, the Toreros scored two more in the seventh with a Mavridis RBI double and a Berriatua RBI single.
Hernandez (4-8) allowed only one earned run in six innings to earn the win. Freshman Gaby Grabowski made her first collegiate appearance, pitching a scoreless final inning.
The Toreros play in the Gaucho Classic at UC Santa Barbara next weekend, beginning with Thursday with games against CS Bakersfield (9:00 a.m.) and Seattle (2:00 p.m.).
