SANTA BARBARA, Calif. â€" Behind a season-high six doubles and 16 hits, the USD softball team (12-20) knocked off Seattle 12-2 in five innings Thursday afternoon in Santa Barbara, Calif. to avenge a 4-2 loss six days earlier.
Seattle took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring on a RBI triple and single.
The Toreros responded with ten unanswered runs starting in the top of the second, where they scored four runs on back-to-back doubles by Olivia Sandusky and Taylor Spence.
Two Torero doubles led to another run in the third. Tatum Schultz led off the inning would a two-bagger to left and she was brought home by a Danielle Mavridis double to right center.
The Toreros extended their lead in the fourth, scoring four runs on three hits. Lauren Kane had a RBI sacrifice fly to score Sandusky, and then Schultz knocked home Spence with a RBI single. The next batter, Mary Grabowski, brought in two more with a double, giving USD a 9-2 lead.
The Toreros' offensive barrage continued in the fifth inning. Kailey Hill hit the sixth Torero double of the afternoon to score Sandusky, who led off the inning with a single. Kane then hit another RBI sacrifice fly, and then two batters later Grabowski knocked in Hill with a RBI single to give USD a 12-2 lead.
Megan Sabbatini earned her second win of the day (6-11) after allowing just three hits and two runs in four innings. Grace Hernandez finished the game with a perfect fifth inning.
The Toreros continue the Gaucho Classic II with another game against Seattle Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
