SANTA BARBARA, Calif. â€" The USD softball team (12-21) fell to Seattle 3-1 Friday morning in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The Toreros broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Lauren Kane led off the inning with a double to right center and then came around to score on a Seattle throwing error.
Seattle scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead. Their first run came on a triple down the rightfield line, and their second scored on a wild pitch, which prompted Coach McElvain to pull starter Megan Sabbatini.
The Redhawks scored an insurance run off Grace Hernandez in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.
The Toreros were outhit 7-5. Megan Sabbatini (6-12) was saddled with loss after allowing two runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. Grace Hernandez allowed just one hit and on run in 2.1 innings.
The Toreros wrap up the Gaucho Classic tomorrow with games against CS Bakersfield at 1:30 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara at 3:45 p.m.
