SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. â€" The University of San Diego baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision to the University of San Francisco Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at Benedetti Diamond.

With the loss, the Toreros fall to 20-23 overall, move to 7-11 in the WCC. With the win, the Dons improve to 16-26 overall, move to 10-8 in the WCC, and complete a sweep of the Toreros.

USF got on the scoreboard first, as they managed to score one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Dons scored their one run on an Allen Smoot RBI sacrifice bunt, which scored Matt Sinatro, who had walked, to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

San Diego then evened the score in the top of the second inning, scoring one run on three hits. Kevin Collard got things started with a single to centerfield, and he moved to third on a Hunter Mercado-Hood single to right field. Roman Garcia then drove in Collard with a RBI single to right centerfield, moving the score to 1-1.

USF then scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, and USD answered right back with one run in the top of the third. The Torero runs came on Brhet Bewley RBI single, which scored Bryson Brigman, who had singled, to cut the lead back down to one at 3-1.

The Dons then went on to score five unanswered runs, scoring two in the third, one in the sixth, and two in the eighth, to put the game at its final of 8-2.

Offensively for the Toreros, six different players recorded one hit each, while both Collard and Garcia recorded one RBI apiece.

Gary Cornish (5-3) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed five runs on six hits in 4.0 innings of work. James Kannenberg (5-3) picked up the win for the Dons, as he allowed two runs on seven hits in 9.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday, as they head up to UC Riverside for a 6 p.m. game at the Sports Complex.
