Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. â€" The University of San Diego baseball team competed a three-game sweep of the University of Portland with a 7-3 win Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game.

With the win, the Toreros improve to 23-24 overall, move to 10-11 in the WCC, and have posted their first WCC series sweep of the season. With the loss, the Pilots fall to 15-27 overall and 2-16 in the WCC.

The Toreros got on the scoreboard first, as they scored two runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Bryson Brigman got things started with a lead-off bunt single, and he moved to second on Kevin Collard's single. Two batters later, Brhet Bewley reached on a fielder's choice, which moved Brigman to third, and saw Collard put out at second base. Bewley then moved to second on a wild pitch, and a second wild pitch scored Brigman from third, and moved Bewley to third. James Bonds then singled in Bewley for the final run to give USD a 2-0 lead.

The Pilots then cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth, scoring one run on a Kerr RBI single to right field, which scored Hummel, to move the score to 2-1.

After Portland scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-2 lead, USD would then go on to score five unanswered runs, two in the seventh and eighth innings, and one more in the top of the ninth, to put the game at its final of 7-3.

Offensively for the Toreros, Collard led the way, as he went 3-for-5 with a home run and one RBI. Bewley also had a good day, as he too went 3-for-5, with one run scored.

Nick Sprengel (4-7) picked up the win on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed no runs on one hit, while striking out five in 3.1 innings of work. Luckenbech (3-1) was saddled with the loss for the Pilots, as he allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits in 1.1 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Monday, as they remain in the Pacific Northwest to take on the University of Oregon at 2 p.m.
