CORVALLIS, Ore. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 loss Oregon State University Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at Paul Lorentz Field.
San Diego got on the scoreboard first, as in the 55th minute of action, Rachel Conners played a ball through to Summer Mason, and she in turn hit a strike from the 6-yard line, to give USD a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers then evened up the match in the 75th minute of play, as Nikki Faris sent a cross to Natalie Higgins, who was able to slip one past the USD defense, moving the score to 1-1.
Then in the 97th minute of action, Helene Haavik sent the ball into the goal box, where Higgins then back heeled the ball to Faris, and she hit a strike into the back of the net, giving the home team a 2-1 win.
USD outshot the Beavers 15-14, and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Amber Michel was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed two goals and recorded three saves. Her counterpart, Bella Giest, picked up the win for OSU as she allowed one goal and recorded one save.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they welcome the Titans of Cal State Fullerton to Torero Stadium for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
