MADISON, Wis. â€" The 18th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Wisconsin in the opening match of the HotelRED Invitational Friday evening.
With the 15-25, 16-25, 20-25 loss, the Toreros fall to 1-2 on the young season, while the Badgers improve to 4-0 with the win.
USD's offense was paced by senior outside hitter Lisa Kramer's nine kills, while Lauren Schad added in eight kills and Thana Fayad had six kills. Lauren Fuller led the team with 15 digs, while Hunter Jennings had 11 digs. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 16 assists.
As a team, USD hit for a .009 clip, and Wisconsin hit for a .260 clip. USD was out blocked 14.5-3, and USD recorded 41 digs, while the Badgers recorded 45 digs.
For the Badgers, Lauryn Gillis led the way with 11 kills, while hitting .286. Kelli Bates led the defense with 12 digs, while Lauren Carlini recorded 28 assists.
The Toreros will return to action on Saturday, as they take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 4 p.m.
