SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" Battling heavy rainfall and strong winds, the USD Swim & Dive team squared off against their cross town rival, San Diego State, in the team's final home meet of the year Friday afternoon. Despite a strong showing from the Toreros, the Aztecs topped them 215-82.
Before the meet, the team had a heartfelt tribute for their six seniors: Missy Beall, Danielle Deiparine, Bri Jurries, Jordan Martinko, Julia Personeni, and Gwen Walter
Danielle Taylor won the 50 free (24.49) and took second in the 200 free (1:53.74 and the 100 fly (58.86). She also helped the Toreros take second in the 400 free relay with Danielle Deiparine, Gwen Walter, and Mackenna Briggs (3:36.56).
For the second meet in a row, Alex Hubel won the 200 fly. After winning with a time of 2:05.36 last week, she finished in 2:05.92 against the Aztecs to earn USD nine points.
Briggs took second in the 500 free (5:08.14) and grabbed third in the 200 fly (2:09.18) and the 100 free (53.44).
Samantha Terranova posted a career best time in the 1000 free (10:36.08), which was good for second place. She also finished third in the 200 back (2:14.97).
Deiparine also had a top three finish, taking third in the 200 breast (2:27.35).
The Toreros kicked off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Beall, Jurries, Hubel and Deiparine clocked in at 1:51.34.
The Toreros will have their final tune-up before the MPSF Championships next Saturday at noon at UC San Diego.
