SAN DIEGO - Kailyn Evans and Alex Hubel won an event apiece to highlight San Diego's double-dual meet Saturday morning against Northern Arizona and Cal State East Bay.
Evans posted the top time in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.76), while Hubel finished the 100 butterfly in 57.13 to lead the pack. Their performances helped the Toreros finish 1-1 on the day, defeating the Pioneers (173-98) and falling to the Lumberjacks (174-100).
It was a strong day overall for USD as 11 swimmers combined for 21 top-five finishes. The meet was the final competition of 2017 for the Toreros, which will return to action during the first week of January.
Along with her first-place performance in the 100 fly, Hubel added a second-place result in the 200 fly (2:05.97).
Danielle Taylor posted top-five results in each of her events, placing second in the 100 backstroke (58.67), third in the 50 free (24.45) and fourth in the 100 free (53.30).
Lillian Benwell led the Toreros in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.04 and added a third-place finish in the 200 breast (2:29.10). She placed fifith in the 100 breast (1:08.67).
MK Clancy raced to a third-place result in the 200 IM (2:17.05) and fourth place in the 200 backstroke (2:12.03).
Maeve Murdoch went 59.22 in the 100 fly to finish third and posted a 2:11.03 in the 200 fly to claim fifth.
Mackenna Briggs and Samantha Terranova teamed up to finish fourth (5:14.93) and fifth (5:15.11) in the 500 free, respectively. Terranova added another fifth-place result in the 200 back (2:13.05).
Alyssa Hornbuckle notched a fifth-place result in the 50 free (25.47), while Allie Andrade went 2:32.72 in the 200 breast to place fifth.
The Toreros were strong in the relays and placed second in both events. Taylor, Evans, Hubel and Murdoch teamed up for the 200 medley relay and posted a time of 1:47.69. Hornbuckle, Murdoch, Briggs and Hubel went 3:38.63 in the 400 free relay.
Saturday's meet completed the USD's 2017 slate and the Toreros will return to competition Jan. 6 when they play host to the USD Shootout.
