Santa Barbara â€" The USD Toreros dropped a 6-1 decision to UC Santa Barbara in today's second game action at the Gaucho Classic II Tournament in Santa Barbara. The Gauchos opened the game with 1 run in the first inning, and then jumped out to a 4-0 lead after adding 3 runs in the 4th. UCSB's Jessica Johnston ripped a 2-run homer to right field for the key hit in the inning.
USD's lone run came in the 5th inning when the Toreros collected three hits. Sara Silveyra's RBI single up the middle scored Sarah Stone, who was in as a pinch runner for Lindsay Clare who opened the inning with a single.
UCSB was paced by Sierra Altmeyer who went 3-for-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. Ashley Wright pitched 4.2 innings and limited the Toreros to 5 singles. Delaney Heller (4-3) took the loss. She pitched 2.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs.
The Toreros return Saturday to play Seattle (9:00 a.m.) and UC Santa Barbara (11:15 a.m.) again.
