USD vs UCSB Boxscore Mar 25 
Santa Barbara, Calif. -- The USD Toreros closed out play at the Gaucho Classic II with a tough 4-3 loss to the host UCSB Gauchos. Taylor Spence went 4-for-4 at the plate with 1 run scored and Sara Silveyra was 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 2 walks. With the loss the Toreros drop to 13-15 on the season.
The Gauchos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind a 2-run double from Alyssa Diaz. In the top of the 3rd the Toreros pulled to within 2-1 as Taylor Spence and Olivia Sandusky opened with singles; Lauren Kane walked and Sara Silveyra knocked in Spence with an RBI single to right. The Gauchos answered in the bottom of the third with their own run to push their lead back to 2 runs.
In the fifth Silveyra opened the inning with a walk and eventually scored when Madison Casiano reached on a throwing error. But once again, the Gauchos answered with a run to edge ahead 4-2. In the top of the 7th Casiano's RBI single plated Silveyra to get USD within 4-3. The Toreros rallied in the inning with 3 hits, but Felisha Noriega was able to close out the game by getting Shannon McKeon to hit into a groundout back to the pitcher.
For UCSB, Diaz went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and pitcher Felisha Noriega went the distance, giving up 9 hits, 3 runs (2 earned) and 6 strikeouts. Megan Sabbatini (4-8) took the loss on the mound for USD. The Toreros return to the USD Softball Complex on Wednesday, March 29, when they host UC Riverside in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
