MORAGA, Calif. -- The USD softball team (17-16, 3-1) improved to 3-1 in conference with a 4-0 win at Saint Mary's Friday afternoon. Megan Sabbatini allowed just four hits in a complete game shutout and Olivia Sandusky powered the Torero offense with a three-run homer.
The Toreros scored all four of their runs in third inning. With one out and runners on first and third, senior Olivia Sandusky blasted a three run homer to left field, her team-high sixth homer of the year.
Two batters later, Kailey Hill drew a walk and was pinch run for by Savannah Shields, who advanced to second on a passed ball. Frankie Perales then tripled to right to score Shields and put the Toreros up 4-0.
Sabbatini (8-8) tossed her sixth complete game of the season and her third shutout. She allowed just four hits and one walk and struck out six batters.
Katie Moss pitched all seven innings for Saint Mary's, giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits. She struck out ten Toreros but walked five.
The Toreros take on the Gaels in a doubleheader Saturday with game one beginning at noon.
