USD vs BYU Game 2 
Provo, Utah -- The USD softball team (20-20, 6-5 WCC) was swept by No. 21 BYU (35-10, 8-0 WCC) in this evening's doubleheader played at Gail Miller Field in Provo, Utah. The host Cougars won both games by run-rule scores of 9-0 and 10-1. The two teams will face off in game three on Saturday in a single game slated to start at 12 noon (Pacific). It will be televised on BYUtv.
In game one, BYU's McKenna Bull pitched her fifth consecutive WCC shutout as she improved to 23-4 on the season and 5-0 in WCC play. She scattered 5 hits and struckout six over 5.0 innings of work in the 9-0 victory. USD's Sara Silveyra went 2-for-3 at the plate, and senior Olivia Sandusky added a double. BYU was paced by Rylee Jensen (2-for-3, 3 runs, 1 double, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and Alexas Strid (3-for-3, 2 runs). The Toreros trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning, but the Cougars scored 3 in the 4th and tacked on 5 more runs in the 5th to close out the game. Megan Sabbatini took the loss for the Toreros with her season record moving to 10-10.
In game two, the host Cougars scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first on their way to a 10-1 victory after five innings. Rylee Jensen was 1-for-2 with a home run, 3 runs and 3 RBI. Caitlyn Allredge was 3-for-3 with 2 runs, 5 RBI and 2 home runs. USD was paced by leadoff hitter Taylor Spence who went 2-for-2 with a walk. BYU's Arissa Paulson pitched a complete game 6-hitter, giving up one run while totaling 4 strikeouts. USD scored one run in the second, only to see BYU answer with single runs in the 3rd and 4th, and 4 runs in the 5th. Sabbatini was pinned with the loss in falling to 10-11.
