Ogden, Utah -- The University of San Diego softball team, making its first postseason appearance, was dealt an 8-0 loss by the Utah State Aggies (33-16) in today's first round action. A double elimination tournament, the Toreros (22-23) will return Wednesday morning for a 9:00 a.m. (Pacific) contest against Boise State.
Utah State freshman RHP Kellie White (18-6) pitched 4.1 innings, limiting the Toreros to four hits while striking out three. USD was paced by Lindsay Clare who knocked a double, and a trio of Toreros with a single -- Olivia Sandusky, Kailey Hill and Frankie Perales. Senior Megan Sabbatini took the loss on the mound for the Toreros to see her record drop to 12-14.
Utah State was paced offensively by Amee Aarhus (2-for-2, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Brina Buttacavoli (2-for-2, 1 run, 2 RBIs), Riley Plogger (2-for-2, 2 runs, 1 triple) and Jazmin Clarke (1-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBIs). Utah will return to play the winner of the Weber State -- Boise State contest on Wednesday at 12 noon.
