SALT LAKE CITY, Utah â€" The Toreros (6-3) earned their sixth sweep of the season Saturday evening, beating Green Bay 3-0 in their final match of the Utah Volleyball Classic. Jayden Kennedy led the Toreros with 14 kills on an efficient .591 hitting percentage, helping USD win 25-17, 25-21, 25-15.
Sophomore Megan Jacobsen had a career day, recording 10 kills on 13 attacks. Other Toreros with double-digits kills included Lauren Fuller (12) and Kaity Edwards (10). Lizzy Tardieu had a team-high 16 kills and Roxie Wiblin added ten. Kristen Gengenbacher had 28 assists and seven digs.
The Toreros had an attack percentage of .336 and held the Phoenix to a .156 clip. Defensively the Toreros had 57 digs while Green Bay had just 38.
USD cruised through the first and third sets, but were in danger of losing the second set. The Toreros found themselves down 19-18, but Jayden Kennedy had six kills down the stretch to help USD finish the set on a 7-2 run. All six of the Toreros' wins have been sweeps.
Lydia DeWeese led Green Bay with 10 kills. Maddie Yoss had a team-high 25 assists and Vanessa Buman led the Phoenix with 11 digs.
The Toreros next match is at home against their cross town rival San Diego State Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m.
