Productive Night for the Toreros

San Diego completed the series sweep of San Francisco with a 3-1 victory

SAN DIEGO – Four Toreros posted double-doubles in San Diego's 3-1 victory over San Francisco on Thursday night.
 
Roxie Wiblin tallied 15 kills and 14 digs to lead USD (14-10, 11-3 WCC) to the series sweep over USF (8-18, 1-14 WCC). The Toreros hit .245 to take down the Dons, 25-17, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-19. 

Kelli Barry was instrumental in the back row, finishing the night with 25 digs and 13 assists. Anna Newsome posted 22 assists and 17 digs, while Laura Madill added 20 assists and 11 digs.
 
The Toreros spread around the wealth in the front row. Megan Jacobsen (12 kills), Cami May (11 kills) and Addie Picha (8 kills) dominated at the net. Picha added eight blocks and helped keep the Dons to a .042 hitting percentage.
 
San Diego started slow, falling behind 5-8 in the first set before two kills by Katie Lukes and a block by Lukes and Jacobsen helped propel USD even with the Dons, 9-9. The teams traded points before the Toreros went on a 5-0 run to make it 18-13 and cruised to a first-set victory. 
 
The Toreros took an early 11-3 lead to start the second set and never let up, pulling away by as many as 10 points on their way to a two-set lead in the match.
 
The Dons kept it close in a third set that saw 11 ties, the last one coming at 23-23, before USF eventually pulled ahead to win 25-23. However, the Toreros came out aggressive in the fourth set behind Wiblin's six kills to take the match 25-19.
 
The Toreros will take on Santa Clara in their final home match of the season on Saturday at 12 p.m. San Diego will recognize its four seniors—Addie Picha, Lauren Fuller, Kaity Edwards and Allyson Eylers prior to the match.
