Tempe, Ariz. -- San Diego was unable to extend their five-game winning streak in their first road game of the season, falling to Illinois State, 4-0, at the Littlewood Classic.
Although they tied the Redbirds with 6 hits on the day, the Toreros were unable to capitalize with any runs.
Leading USD with three hits was Hannah Gilliland, who also doubled. Another double was hit by Madison Casiano, who produced two hits on the day. The final Torero hit came from Shelbi Evans.
Hannah Boos pitched for the majority of the game, permitting four runs - three earned - on six hits and two walks with a strikeout in 4 2/3 innings. Delaney Heller came in as relief for the final 1 1/3 innings and did not allow a hit.
The Redbirds secured the game in the fourth inning when Borries delivered a two-RBI hit to left-center field. Illinois State scored two insurance runs in the following inning, when Allison Spence hit a home run to right field to put the Redbirds up, 4-0.
The Toreros continue in the Littlewood Classic on Saturday, when they play against North Dakota at 8 a.m. PT and a rematch against Illinois State at 10:30 a.m.
