Offense Goes Cold at Cal State Fullerton

Feb. 22, 2018

Final Stats

FULLERTON, Calif. - San Diego was undone by a cold night at the plate and a potent Cal State Fullerton offense as the Toreros fell, 8-0, in five innings Thursday evening.

The Toreros (6-6) were no-hit by the Titans (6-6) starting pitcher, Taylor Dockins, who went all 5.0 innings and permitted just one walk. USD put the ball in play, only registering two strikeouts, but could not find the gaps needed to get on the scoreboard.

The Toreros were unable to slow down the Titans' offense, which racked up eight runs on seven hits.

Delaney Heller got the start in the circle for USD and allowed four runs - three earned - on four hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. Halle Kyler entered the circle in relief and finished the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

The Toreros were down, 4-0, in the fifth inning before the Titans doubled their score to claim the 8-0 run-rule victory.

USD will look to rebound Friday when it begins play at the Gaucho Classic in Santa Barbara, California, with a doubleheader against Dayton at noon PT and 2 p.m.
