SAN DIEGO - Freshmen pitchers Halle Kyler and Hannah Boos delivered gems in the circle to lead San Diego to two victories Friday against Cal State Bakersfield and Campbell.
The Toreros (2-1) bounced back after a tough debut Thursday to take down the Roadrunners, 7-5, and defeat the Camels, 4-2.
Kyler (1-0) got the start against CSUB (0-2), and pitched a complete game, allowing just three earned runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Boos (1-0) followed with her own standout performance, holding Campbell (2-1) to two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in a complete game. Boos held the Camels hitless through the first 5 2/3 innings and retired 12 consecutive batters from the second through sixth innings.
Classmate, Katie Vretzos, continued her hot start to her collegiate career at the plate, going 4-for-7 on the day, with a triple, an RBI, two stolen bases, three runs and a .857 slugging percentage. She leads the team with a .545 batting average through the first three games this season.
Lauren Kane also had a quality day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a walk. Kailey Hill (3-for-6) and Shelbi Evans (2-for-4) both hit .500 on the day.

The Toreros got going early against CSUB, generating back-to-back infield singles in the bottom of the first. Sara Silveyra launched a two-RBI double to bring in a pair of runs and give USD an early, 2-0, lead.
Vretzos connected with a pitch in the bottom of the third inning that she sent over the center fielder's head for a triple. She came home on an RBI-single by Kane to put the Toreros up, 3-1. Kailey Hill kept the cycle going by bringing Kane home with an RBI-single of her own.
While the Toreros were putting runs on the board, Kyler was cruising in the circle and retired the first nine batters she faced racking up four strikeouts in the span.
The Toreros capitalized on an error in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. A sacrifice fly by Shelbi Evans in the bottom of the fifth extended USD's lead to 7-3.
CSUB produced a pair of runs in the top of the sixth but Kyler let her defense work and halted the rally. She kept the Roadrunners off the board in the seventh to secure the victory for the Toreros.

USD struck early again against Campbell, loading the bases with no outs and capitalizing with a two-RBI double by Hill to put the Toreros up, 2-0.
A Toreros error in the top of the second inning allowed a Camels run to score but USD capitalized on a pair of Campbell errors in the bottom half of the inning to get the run back and remain in front, 3-1.
A sac-fly by Vretzos in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the USD a valuable extra cushion of a 4-1 lead.
Campbell managed a run in the seventh but Boos remained focused and shut the door to seal the second victory of the day for USD.
The Toreros continue tournament play Saturday with a pair of games, beginning with Campbell at 2:30 p.m. PT and finishing with CSUB at 5 p.m.
