SAN DIEGO - Halle Kyler and Delaney Heller held No. 22 Long Beach State to two runs but San Diego was unable to pull the upset, falling to the 49ers, 2-0, Thursday night at the USD Softball Complex.

Kyler (4-4) got the start and permitted two runs in 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and five walks with a pair of strikeouts. Heller entered the game in the fourth inning and finished the game, not allowing a run on a pair of hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The Toreros (9-9) had trouble figuring out 49ers (13-3) starting pitcher Cielo Meza (8-0) who threw a complete game and only allowed one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.

Despite the lack of hits, the Toreros had their opportunities offensively during the game.

Hannah Gilliland provided USD's lone hit with a one-out single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Toreros were unable to capitalize.

The Toreros had a runner on second with one out and runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning but could not generate the hit needed to get on the scoreboard.

Shelbi Evans provided the defensive highlight of the game when she fired a perfect strike to second base to get a LBSU runner trying to steal in the top of the fourth inning.

The Toreros will look to get back on track Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT when it plays host to Colorado State.
