SAN DIEGO - Delaney Heller pitched a gem and San Diego scored in four-of-six offensive innings to defeat Colorado State, 7-2, Friday evening at the USD Softball Complex.

Heller (3-3) threw her first complete game of the season and limited the Rams (8-3) to two runs - both unearned - on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

The Toreros' (10-9) offense provided her with plenty of support, tying its season-high of 13 hits and capitalizing on opportunities by going 6-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Taylor Spence paced the offence with a 3-for-3 showing and a pair of runs. Hannah Gilliland and Sara Silveyra both went 2-for-2 with an RBI apiece, while Shelbi Evans went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

USD got off to a quick start when Spence led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Katie Vretzos dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Spence to third and Gilliland followed with a perfect bunt-single to bring in Spence and give the Toreros a 1-0 lead.

USD struck again in the fourth inning with Gilliland led off with a single. Kailey Hill followed with a perfectly executed hit-and-run to put runners on first and third. Silveyra singled to center to bring in the runner from third and double the Toreros lead to, 2-0.

Evans kept the momentum going with an RBI-single to left field to extend USD's lead to, 3-0.

The defensive play of the game came in the top of the fifth inning with a runner on first and one out. Heller picked up her fifth strikeout of the game and catcher Madison Casiano threw out the runner trying to steal second to end the inning.

The Toreros doubled its lead in the bottom half of the inning with three runs on four hits. RBI-singles by Gilliland, Lauren Kane and Evans put the Toreros up, 6-0.

Colorado State capitalized on a pair of USD errors in the top of the sixth inning to score two runs but the Toreros regrouped and ended the inning.

Pinch-hitters, Frankie Perales and Emilie Olague, got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning. Perales drew a walk and Olague hammered a double to the right-center field gap to score Perales from first and give the Toreros a 7-2 lead.

USD will look to carry its momentum into Saturday night's matchup against No. 3/3 UCLA.
