USD vs PAC Box Mar 23 
STOCKTON -- Kevin Collard's 3-run home run to right field in the 8th inning led the USD Toreros to a 7-4 win over the Pacific Tigers in Stockton this evening. Junior RHP Paul Richan picked up the win as he gave up just seven hits and four runs while totaling nine strikeouts over 7-plus innings.
Pacific (7-14, 0-4 WCC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first off of Richan (2-3), with just one earned run crossing the plate. That score held until the seventh when the Toreros (11-11, 2-2 WCC) scored three runs to take the lead. Jeff Houghtby opened with a walk and advance to second on a balk. Daniel Gardner's double to right scored Houghtby. Kevin Collard came in to pinch hit and delivered a single to right that moved Gardner to third. Tyler Herburger and Tora Otsuka delivered RBI singles to make it 3-2.
In USD's 3-run 8th inning, Jay Schuyler singled to open the inning. He moved to second on Shane McGuire's groundout and advanced to third on Jeff Houghtby's single. That set up Collard's line drive home run over the right field fence.
In the bottom of the 8th Richan gave up a leadoff single to Bradley Jekich and was replaced by Anthony Donatella. Keaton Glover would single and eventually would score off of a single by Alex LeForestier. The Toreros added an insurance run in the 9th when Tora Otsuka opened with a walk and moved to second on Jay Schuyler's single down the left field line. Shane McGuire's single to right would plate Otsuka.
For the game Collard finished 2-for-2 with one run and 3 RBIs. Freshman Tora Otsuka went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Jay Schuyler and Jeff Houghtby (2 runs) each chipped in two hits each. Donatella closed out the final two innings to pick up his second save of the season. He gave up just one hit while striking out four Tiger batters.
These two teams return on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. contest at Klein Family Field.
