SAN DIEGO - A strong outing in the circle by Hannah Boos and a pinch-hit home run by Emili Olague powered San Diego to a 4-2 victory at San Diego State on Tuesday evening.
Boos (8-2) turned in another quality performance, holding the Aztecs (9-21) to two runs on six hits and no walks with six strikeouts. She held a no-hitter through the first 3 1/3 innings before it was broken up by an infield single by Taylor Adams.
Boos has held opponents to two runs or fewer in nine of her past 10 outings (42.2 IP).
Olague got the Toreros (20-15) going offensively with a pinch-hit two run homer in the top of the third inning. It was her first home run as a Torero.
The bottom half of USD's lineup led the way at the plate, with the six through nine batters accounting for five of the Toreros six hits and three of their four runs.
Halle Kyler went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, while Katie Vretzos went 2-for-3 with a run and a triple.
After Olague's two-run homer in the third, Kyler hit an RBI-single and Taylor Spence delivered an RBI-double to double the Toreros lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
The Aztecs rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut USD's lead in half. That was all San Diego State would get, however, as Boos finished the fifth and got through the sixth before handing the ball over to Delaney Heller in the seventh.
Heller earned her team-leading fourth save of the season, striking out the side in the seventh to seal the victory for the Toreros.
USD will have a quick turnaround for its next game on Wednesday at noon PT when it plays host to UC Santa Barbara.
