USD vs USF BOX Mar 31 
SAN FRANCISCO -- Freshman RHP Gabriel Ponce made the most of his third start of the season by limiting the USF Dons to just three hits over 5.1 innings while striking out eight. He left with a 4-0 lead to earn the victory and even his record at 2-2 and the Toreros would go on to win 5-0. Junior LHP Anthony Donatella closed out the final 3.2 innings limiting the Dons to just two hits for his third save of the season.
Ponce settled down after getting himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the first by striking out Matt Campos.
USD took a 2-0 lead in the 5th inning when Adam Kerner and Tora Otsuka each got onboard with singles and then were driven in by Shane McGuire's two-out two-run double to right field.
The Toreros would tack on two more runs in the 6th. Adam Kerner's deep double to left center knocked in Kevin Collard, and Kerner would score on Connor Doyle's single to left field. USD's final run came in the 8th inning when Kevin Collard opened the frame with a double. Connor Doyle's single moved him to third and Paul Kunst would knock him in with a groundout to third base.
For the game five Toreros contributed two hits. Shane McGuire went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs; Jay Schuyler went 2-for-5; Adam Kerner went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI; Tora Otsuka went 2-for-2; and Connor Doyle went 2-for-2 with one RBI. As a team the Toreros banged out 11 hits and three doubles. USF was paced by Riley Helland who went 3-for-4. USF starter Landon Bourassa suffered the loss and drops to 4-2.
With the win the Toreros improve to 13-15 overall and 4-5 in the WCC standings. USF suffered its first WCC loss (7-1) and fall to 18-9 overall.
Up next for the Toreros is a nonconference game on Tuesday, April 3rd, against UC Irvine in a 6:00 p.m. contest at Fowler Park.
