USD vs SMC BOX April 15 
FOWLER PARK -- The Toreros dropped a 16-2 contest in today's rubber game against the Saint Mary's Gaels. SMC starter Ken Waldichuk limited the Toreros to five hits and two runs thru 6.2 innings to improve his season record to 6-1. The Gaels (19-15, 8-7 WCC) scored in each of the first five innings that was capped off by a 5-run 5th.
In the first inning the Gaels jumped out to a 3-0 lead. A Torero error prevented a potential inning ending double play and DH Kevin Milam made USD pay with a 3-run home run off of Nick Sprengel (1-2). The Gaels added two runs in the 2nd inning when Joe Vranesh led off with a home run, and then three singles produced the second run.
On the day the Gaels would total 19 hits against six Torero pitchers. Offensively SMC was paced by DH Kevin Milam (2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs, 1 double, 1 home run). Vranesh finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Joey Fiske was 3-for-4 with four runs scored.
USD's (17-19, 7-8 WCC) offense was highlighted by Connor Doyle's two-run homer to left field in the 7th. Additional hits were turned in by Tora Otsuka (2 singles), Shane McGuire and Adam Kerner. Nigel Ward was solid in relief as he worked 2.2 innings, giving up just one hit while allowing no runs.
USD will close out their home stand with a nonconference game against Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, April 17th at 6:00 pm.
