Evans Helps Lead Toreros at Pepperdine Invite

Los Angeles, Calif. - USD swim and dive had a solid performance over the weekend at the Pepperdine Winter Invitational hosted at East LA Community College. The Toreros finished fifth overall out of nine teams and had 149 season best times, and 20 career best times during the three day event.

USD junior, Kailyn Evans was the stand out of the meet for the Toreros. Her combined total score for the weekend landed her eighth out of 268 swimmers. She had a career best time of 55.28 for the 100-yard butterfly and finished eighth. In addition, she had three top-five finishes in the 100-yard breast, 100-yard free, and 50-yard breast.

Freshman Rachel Hubka had two top ten finishes and set career best times in four events. Two of her events, the 50-yard free and 50-yard fly, she set career best times in the preliminaries and went on to beat those times in the finals. In the 50-yard free she swam a sub 24 second time in both the preliminary and final events.

"I'm very excited about our team's performance over the weekend. We gained valuable experience competing at the venue of our championship, plus the experience of a 3 day championship style meet," said head coach Michael Keeler.

Dive had a successful weekend as well; Isabel Busyn placed second in both the one meter and the three meter dive, while Katie McCarthy placed third in the one meter and fourth in the three meter.

USD held their own in the relays, placing top ten in the 400 free relay, the 200-yard free relay and the 200-yard medley relay. The Toreros took home fifth place with their 1:43.90 medley relay, their highest relay finish of the weekend.

The Toreros next face Dixie State at home on December 14 at 10 a.m.
